About L&D Solutions

L&D Solutions is a family repair shop in California and South Carolina, started by Leo and his son Dennis in 2011. Each repair has its own price, from $54.99 for an airbag module reset to $99.99 for a seat belt with two connectors.

The challenge: shoppers can't tell what their repair will cost

L&D Solutions loses buyers when they can't work out what their repair costs. The product page shows one seat belt repair at $69.99. A shopper after an accident often holds several broken parts that don't match one product.

These are real questions from L&D's chat:

  • "I have two retractors, a lap belt and two buckles that need to have the webbing replaced from a Ford F750. How would I price/pay for these items?"
  • "3 cinturones y un modulo" (three belts and a module, from a shopper writing in Spanish)
  • "One has one connector and the other has two, but one of them still works." (the same shopper, translated)

To answer, someone has to count the parts and match each one to a repair. Does the belt have one connector or two? Does the airbag module need a reset too?

Without that answer, the shopper has two choices: email photos and wait for a reply, or leave. A shopper who waits a day for a price can easily buy somewhere else.

How Chatty AI Sales Agent turns a list of broken parts into an order

Chatty is the AI sales agent for Shopify stores. AI chatbot and live chat are two standout features of Chatty. The AI chatbot answers from your own Shopify data, and with live chat your team takes over from the AI and closes the sale.

On L&D's store, Chatty does two things. It reaches out to shoppers before they ask, and it works out the price of their repair in the chat.

What shoppers see on the L&D store

L&D has three Chatty features switched on, each at a different point of the visit:

  • A welcome message on the homepage. A small "Hi there 👋 How can we help you?" bubble opens above the chat button.
  • Product recommendations on repair pages. On the seat belt repair page, Chatty shows the best seller, Custom Color Seat Belts at $89.99. Two buttons sit under it: "View similar" and "Ask about it".
  • The chat itself. Chatty greets the shopper and shows the repair they are viewing, with an add-to-cart button. Two quick buttons offer "Track my order" and "How long does delivery take?".

Most sales start here. 346 of the 388 orders, 89%, came from chats linked to one of these messages.

How Chatty works out the price

When a shopper lists their parts, Chatty takes four steps:

  • It matches each part to a repair. Chatty asks how many connectors each belt has, then names the repair: one connector at $69.99 or two at $99.99.
  • It adds up the price. Chatty multiplies the number of parts by the price per part and gives one total before tax and shipping.
  • It explains what happens next. L&D emails a prepaid shipping label about an hour after the order, during business hours. Repairs take 24 to 48 hours once the parts arrive.
  • It links the right product. Chatty links the repair page and tells the shopper which option and quantity to choose.

Because Chatty uses L&D's own prices, every total matches the store to the cent.

For example, a Ford F750 owner had two retractors, two buckles and a lap belt that needed new webbing. Chatty explained that each piece counts as one Webbing Replacement at $89.99. The shopper wrote back "$89.99 X 5 for a total of $449.99". Chatty corrected it to $449.95, and the order came in 12 minutes later.

The results: 388 orders and $69,671 from the chat

L&D Solutions got 388 orders worth $69,671 from Chatty in 11 months, with an average order of about $180. Half of those orders came within 11 minutes of Chatty naming the repair.

Chat sales also grew over the year. They went from about $4,600 a month in winter to more than $9,000 a month by late summer:

Assisted revenue by month for L&D Solutions, November 2025 to October 2026: from $3,920 in December 2025 to $9,928 in September 2026, $69,671 in total

These numbers show how the orders happened:

  • 11 minutes was the median time between Chatty naming the repair and the order.
  • 53% of orders (207 of 388) came the same day as the chat.
  • 89% of orders (346 of 388) came from chats linked to a proactive message.
  • 66% of orders (258 of 388) included the exact repair Chatty named in the chat. Chatty marks these orders Chatty Direct in Shopify.
  • 87% of the order chats we could match (277 of 317) had no reply from the L&D team.

Past customers bought again too. Chats that started with a question about an earlier order led to 60 new orders worth $9,570.

Why Chatty fits stores that price repairs by the part

Chatty fits any store that prices a repair or service by the part. Watch, shoe, electronics and upholstery repair stores all work like L&D Solutions. The shopper knows what is broken, but not which product to buy or what it will cost.

Here is how Chatty handles the problems these stores share:

The problem What Chatty does
One product page can't price several broken parts Counts the parts and gives one total in the chat
Shoppers don't know which version they have Asks one question, like how many connectors, and names the right repair
Shoppers worry about shipping their parts away Explains the prepaid label and the repair time before they pay
A price by email takes a day Gives the price while the shopper is on the page, with a median of 11 minutes to order
Shoppers write in other languages Replies in the shopper's language with the same prices

If you run a repair store, count how many chats end with "email us photos for a price". Chatty can give those shoppers the price while they are still on your store, so they can order right away.

Questions about this story

Did L&D Solutions need staff on chat to close these orders?
