## Frequently asked questions

**What exactly is counted as 1 AI conversation?**

An AI conversation is a complete interaction between a customer and your AI assistant, from first message to resolution. Conversations are counted as completed interactions, not individual messages, and each one is counted once, when it ends. Only conversations where the AI actually replies count toward your usage. System messages and welcome messages do not.

**Do live chat conversations with my team count toward the AI limit?**

No. Human conversations are unlimited on every plan, including Free. Only conversations where Chatty AI replies count toward your monthly allowance, so a chat your team picks up and answers manually never uses an AI conversation.

**What happens if I go over my monthly AI conversation limit?**

On Basic, Pro and Plus, extra AI conversations are billed at $0.40 each on the same 30-day cycle as your plan, and you can set a spending limit in the app so the cost never runs past your budget. The Free plan does not bill for extras: it stops at 50 AI conversations a month and your team can keep replying manually. If you go over every month, moving up a plan is usually cheaper than paying per conversation, and the calculator on this page works out exactly where that switch happens for your volume.

**Are the 50 free AI conversations per month, or 50 in total?**

Per month. The Free plan resets to 50 AI conversations at the start of every 30-day billing cycle and stays free for as long as you use it. There is no lifetime cap and no credit card required to start.

**Are there hidden fees or will it get more expensive as my business grows?**

No hidden fees. Your plan includes a set number of AI replies, and if you need more they are billed at $0.40 each. That rate is the same on Basic, Pro and Plus, so it never climbs as you scale. You stay in control because spending limits mean costs never surprise you. Most stores stay within their included replies, and once you are going over every month, moving up a plan usually costs less than paying per reply; the calculator on this page shows exactly where that crossover falls for your volume.

**How does billing work?**

Chatty bills through your Shopify account, so charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice. Recurring and usage-based charges are billed every 30 days in USD, and paid plans start with a 7-day free trial.

**What is the difference between the Standard and Pro AI models?**

Basic runs the Standard AI model. Pro and Plus run the Pro AI model, which is smarter and answers with higher accuracy. Pro and Plus also unlock the AI shopping assistant, proactive engagement and abandoned cart recovery, the features that turn a support chat into a sale.

**How long does it take to set up? I don't have technical skills.**
